Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My child has a learning disability, how can the Resource Service help me?

Essex Libraries and the Resource Service have many specialist books and DVD's which you can borrow for free. Some are both educational as well as fun, like the 'Mr Tumble DVD's' which include Makaton (signs which support language) so you can learn together.

We can also advise you on specialist services in your area, and any of the inclusive communication events that may be happening within the library.

You can also become an 'ICE User' and borrow our specialist equipment. Have a look at the Resources page to see the types of equipment we can lend to you, or the Learn page which has useful guides to help you build your own communication resources.

I work in a day centre, what can I borrow?

We hold a large amount of specialist equipment which supports inclusive communication. A day centre can sign up as one of our 'ICE Users' and borrow things such as digital cameras and laptops with printers so they can make their own communication resources.

We also have a wide range of training DVD's and specialist guides to making information easier to understand. Check out the Loan Equipment page to see the range of equipment we have.
